Black Mirror , one of the current series produced by Netflix and a hit with audiences and critics. One of the episodes of the fifth season was recorded this week, here in Canarinhas, in an apartment in the heart of São Paulo, on Avenida Paulista.
The 190m2 apartment was renovated in 2009 by the Piratininga Arquitetos Associados office , and the original project dates back to 1952, designed by the architect Abelardo de Souza, one of the icons of the modernist movement in Brazil. Check out the details of the project through the images of the photographer Maíra Acayaba:
They say that the entrance of the house is the visiting card of the residence. So the idea is always to give that first good impression. This hall , all bright, gives indications of how the decoration is inside the apartment, as it has a modern touch and with abstract decoration – which reveals the taste of the residents for art. This entrance wall starts the property’s gallery wall , designed for a gallery owner.
Fans of the award-winning series will identify, in this photo, that the decoration does have the face of Black Mirror . The British science fiction series brings stand-alone episodes, with independent stories, without connection to each other – but always with an obscure and satirical theme, addressing problems of the daily life of modern society, mainly as a result of technology.
The scenarios vary greatly from one episode to the next, as some stories take place in an alternate present or the near future. So, just by looking at this photo, you can imagine a scene from the show happening there. This environment, composed of abstract paintings in the background, an illuminated armchair and a zig zag column (in the foreground) can be considered a totally black mirror scenario .
The living space of the apartment, although integrated, has well-defined areas. In the background, the kitchen borders the dining room. At the front, a spacious living room, complete with a huge leather sofa and a pair of matching armchairs , in addition to the iconic lighted armchair. On the right side of the photo you can see another room, smaller and more intimate. Those who are at this point in the room can also see arts everywhere, passion and profession of the resident.
Space for book collection
This smaller space was intended for entertainment. Therefore, the room houses a masonry wall, which serves as a bookcase, with spaces intended for both the TV and the residents’ book collection. Note that, in the background, the open doors show a closet and one of the bedrooms.
This apartment, with modern and masculine decor, has practically all the walls of burnt cement . To give a touch of color, small paintings , with and without a frame, decorate each corner, taking away the coldness of the environment.
to admire the view
Among all the reasons why an address on Avenida Paulista is an object of desire for many people, it is worth mentioning, of course, the view. Living in the heart of São Paulo has numerous advantages: being close to everything, with vast options for shopping and transport, rich cuisine…
Not to compete with the view, large glass doors divide the room from the outside area. On the balcony, just a chair, to sit and enjoy a good wine while admiring the São Paulo sunset. This is a place to rest after a busy day and relax, right in the middle of a city that never stops and never sleeps.
Returning from the porch, the hallway gives access to the rest of the house. And an apartment as full of character as this one couldn’t have any dull space – even if it’s the hallway. Large abstract canvases share space and cover the entire length of the wall: a small indoor art gallery. The floor, a small tile, shows that the apartment, even renovated, has preserved some original touches.
art on the wall
An immense canvas completes the small art gallery, with an image full of meaning. This wall, in “L”, gives access to the living area again, since the environments are integrated.
Bathroom with personality
One of the most colorful points of this apartment is the toilet. The walls, like the rest of the apartment, are also finished in burnt cement . But here, the accessories add a touch of color to the space, with the white of the tableware, the frame with the predominance of blue, the accessories in shades of orange and the successful partnership of colors between the brown of the straw and the green. of the plant.
An entire kitchen on one wall
Although spacious, this entire kitchen is on one wall. The idea may not even seem possible, but looking closely at the image, you can see that nothing was forgotten in this space: cabinets above and below the sink for leftover storage, shelves for everyday accessories to always be at hand, rodabanca with personalized image and dedicated lighting and a beautiful and spacious bench , so no one can fault it.
Burnt cement , property with masculine decoration… And, of course, exposed cement wherever possible. In addition to the masonry bookcase in the TV room, concrete blocks appear throughout most of the apartment’s ceiling. The glass dining table reflects the ceiling, full of little squares – giving the impression that the piece itself is made with blocks.
almost all white
The master suite is a reflection of an environment designed for relaxation. The predominance of white, the art with blue under the bed without a headboard and the touch of wood form a perfect combination for the place of rest. To cover the big window, roller blinds , also in white, essential to keep the climate cozy, clean and not dazzling the view.
In the suite, a surprise: in the corner destined for the shower area, two doors: one to enter the shower, and another to leave, at the other end, directly to the laundry area. Everything thought out to the smallest details.
The doors to the shower and the intimate area are made of blasted glass , and the porcelain tile floor that imitates wood gives a cozy touch to the light space, with marble coating, the same used for the countertop.
Organization is key
And in a spacious suite like this, the closet cannot be missing. In this space, the combination of masonry furniture with planned joinery was essential to enjoy every corner. Thus, it is possible to see that each item in the closet has a reserved space. A well-organized closet like this proves that organization is key.
The second suite is also spacious and fully planned. The bathroom, which is large, has a predominance of light colors, which makes the room seem even bigger. Note that the coating of the wet area is made with water green inserts , the same shade as the blasted glass partition .
With the floor plan of the apartment, it is possible to identify that after the renovation, the suites were on opposite sides, leaving the center of the house as the living area and giving each resident the necessary privacy.
Father and son share this apartment, which originally had three bedrooms. The sector destined to the son corresponds to the old service area, and the space of the father occupies the old dormitories. In the social area, concrete panels hide all the storage of equipment, pantry, library, refrigerators, television, bathrooms and others, with the objective of leaving everything camouflaged, creating unusual spaces in this apartment.
