After 9 years of dating, Sabrina and Gabriel Vianna decided to take their relationship a step further and bought a house. There were many plans for that moment, but not everything went as planned and, at the beginning of this journey, he lost his job.
That’s when the couple began to decorate the house with cheap items that were within reach of both. They got their hands dirty, received heirloom furniture and improvised in the best way to decorate the perfect and affectionate home they dreamed of. See more:
Residence type: home
Area: 187 m²
City: Betim, MG
Residents: Gabriel is a legal professional, but he also loves to dedicate himself to artistic activities, such as music, graphic design and decoration. His partner, Sabrina, was also from the Law area, but decided to change careers and embarked on studies of Environment Design. The dogs, Mike and Luke, are the joy of the house: “they are always glued together, playing and provide us with moments of laughter and affection”, says the couple. About the plans to increase the family, they say: “the babies have not arrived yet, but we have already started to organize ourselves for that moment”.
Differential: “Having a house that made me feel constantly embraced has always been a dream, so from the beginning I thought of items that would bring this idea to the environment”, reveals Sabrina. For her, the desire was a cute and cozy decoration – unlike Vianna, who wanted to follow the industrial style. “The design of the house and the context that was developed ended up leading me to a more affective decoration”, confesses Gabriel. The biggest challenge for them was, of course, the lack of funds after they moved.
Sabrina and Gabriel’s house
Despite the momentary financial difficulties, the duo transformed the environments of the house. They love to escape the obvious when decorating: “we always insert something different, which draws attention and makes the environment unique and very much like us”.
In addition to the legacy furniture, there are also DIY pieces and lots of plants. “There are several species cultivated on land, in water and in kokedamas. There are small plants, large plants and there are also trees”, they comment. All this together is what identifies the couple’s home and makes the spaces more pleasant, cozy and with the personality of both.
Integration and coziness
The dining and TV rooms are combined: “we use a table in the middle to simulate a room”, says Sabrina. And he adds: “we use many plants to compose the environment, in addition to a Costela armchair and fabric elements, such as a blanket and rug, to give more air of coziness”.
It is in this environment that the furniture that is a family heirloom and which was also designed by Vianna’s grandmother can be found. For them, these pieces full of history are special: “they made our house feel like home”.
A very comfortable room
It is in the TV room that the family relaxes and enjoys good times: “I love watching movies, being with the family and spending Sundays watching TV lying on the living room rug with Vianna and the dogs”, says Sabrina. To ensure more comfort and a place for everyone, they installed a suspended hammock next to the sofa. The niches were produced by the duo.
DIY to compose the decoration
The two have always done a lot of research on decor profiles and found a lot of motivation in DIY videos and channels to get their hands dirty. “So we have a final product that is not only much cheaper, but also much more our own”. The pegboards on the dining room wall were made by them: “we made it using cod boxes that we found in the trash of a restaurant in BH”.
Kitchen made by the residents
The first DIY that the couple decided to risk was the production of kitchen cabinets and, from there, they never stopped: “we discovered a new world of possibilities”.
Simple, charming and practical items
The shelves in the kitchen were another creation of the residents: “although they look like they are, they are not suspended, but fastened underneath with braces”, they explain.
Lots of plants around the house
Plants are everywhere, and there are many specimens scattered around the house. “We are always asked if it takes a lot of work to take care of everything, and what we usually answer is that, with all certainty, it does”, delivers the couple. However, they assure: “every second of care is worth it, because the reward they give us in the form of buds and flowers makes us very happy”.
Another item made by them is the TV panel in the couple’s bedroom. The two created an amazing pine pegboard that helps organize and decorate the space. The piece can be customized and adapted according to their needs.
organization and decoration
The furniture houses several books and several plants. Different shapes of vases bring a relaxed and stylish look.
a little color
“We used some colorful elements to give color to the room, such as the little green vase, the stepladder with the blue foot and the yellow fridge”, explains the couple.
Furniture made by the couple
The two also point out that all the other furniture in the room was made by them: bed, headboard and tables.
On the wall behind the bed, a collection of lambe-lambes creates an amazing look with a mix of colors and designs.
closet and office
The environment that is used as a closet and office was the last space in the house to be renovated. But Vianna and Sabrina say that the other bedroom and the bathroom are already on the list for future changes, especially when the family grows and the babies arrive.
handmade macaw for clothes
The entire space was planned and executed by the residents. To store the clothes, instead of using a traditional closet, they opted for a handmade macaw, made with trunk, rope and pine. “We created this solution for our closet because it is a cheaper option and also because it deviates from the norm”.
Workspace and relaxation
The work table was made with easels and a door leaf. But not only work reigns in the space: for moments of relaxation, they installed a swing right in the middle of the environment.
Botanical themed personalization
To personalize the decor, Sabrina and Gabriel applied botanical-themed lambe-lambes on one of the walls. The mirror helps in the feeling of amplitude and also to check the looks in the closet.
Plants, affective decoration and a lot of DIY
Regarding the choices and composition of the environments, they conclude: “our decoration is the union of furniture impeccably designed by Vianna’s grandmother, plus bunches of DIY that we made with great affection, all of this inserted in a jungle, composing, together, this pleasant and cozy environment that is our home”.
Despite the difficulties and frustrated plans, the couple found a way to transform the spaces and leave the environments the way they wanted. Enjoy and also check out other decoration ideas to customize your home in a simple and easy way.
