Natália always liked decoration and, increasingly, became interested in DIY projects. She and her family live in an apartment in Brasília and had to face the challenge of the Covid-19 quarantine. Faced with such a challenging period, they found comfort in their own home and decided to make small changes themselves to make everything even better, check it out:
Residence type: apartment
Area: 110 m²
City: Brasilia, DF
Residents: Born in Brasília, Natália and Carlos Henrique have always lived there. Together, they started a family and today they live with their children, Arthur, 18 years old, Maria Luiza, 13 years old and Milka, the “4-legged daughter”, they say.
Differential: Natália and Carlos are public servants and in the face of the challenges imposed by social isolation, they made several changes in the home to make it more comfortable. “We started out shy, with a painting on our bedroom wall. It was just the kick-off for the changes”, recalls Natália. From there, the two got excited about various do-it-yourself projects for the house and even made their own brick wall!
Natalia and Carlos’ apartment:
Natália says that she and Carlos have different tastes, “I like everything more clean, boho, whereas Carlos likes the rustic. I believe that this mixture is what gives personality to our house”. And she adds “today I see that there is no defined style, but a mixture of everything we like, plants, wood, iron, rustic”.
DIY brick wall
She claims that the brick wall in the living room gave the house another face. “We did it one by one and then applied it to the wall. It was 11 days of hard work, but the reward was greater.”
the charm of the house
And he adds, “we made approximately 1100 bricks to fill the wall and after they were applied we painted it white. It left our room more charming and with a rustic touch that we like”. Quite a challenge!
New face for the room
It is in the living room that the family spends most of their days. In addition to the coating, Natália also made other items to complement the space and transform the decor.
Creative and handmade decoration
“I made a macramé pendant for plants, which are super present in our house. The boho sun was also a DIY that I used a mirror I had at home and barbecue sticks,” she says.
Items made by the residents themselves
Gradually, the house gained new air and was transformed with decorative items made by the hands of its residents. Like the Boho staircase that is in the living room, “we used leftover pine from other projects and gave the corner a bossa”, says Natália.
coffee corner
In the house, there is a space reserved for the coffee corner. And in this home, a cup of coffee is always welcome throughout the day!
The dining table that prides itself on!
Another project that the house is proud of is the dining table, and this time, it was Carlos who got his hands dirty, “he did everything, he bought the metalon, the wood, learned the art of locksmithing with Youtube videos and, later, after a few days of hard work, he created this incredible table”, says Natália. And the resident is surprised to say that all this was done in the service area of the apartment, “despite all the dirt and mess, it was well worth it”.
Mix of industrial and rustic style
For the couple, the furniture made by them fit very well in the house, “we really like this industrial style with the rustic demolition wood and we chose to unite the two”. On the table, a fine specimen of asplenium.
an all blue room
The bedroom is a place of rest and tranquility, which is why Natália and Carlos opted for “calming colors and tones”. They painted the environment themselves and reveal “blue is our favorite color!”. About the frame next to the bed, Natália says that it is a family piece, “it belonged to my grandmother and was kept unused”.
small home office
In this space, there is also a desk, made by Carlos’ hands, “we already had the glass and Carlos made the table base with pine wood from leftovers from other projects”, says Natália. For the couple, this is an essential piece of furniture in the house, “it is being used a lot in this quarantine at home office.”
wall macramé decoration
In the decoration, the details are on account of a macrame piece, an incredible work that Natália acquired with a local artisan.
the heart of the house
For the family, “the kitchen is undoubtedly the place where we spend most of our time […] we love to cook and have our meals together”.
Reinventing the closets
About the kitchen, Natália says that “despite the limited space, we managed to enjoy this environment that unites us so much.” The white cabinets already existed when they moved into the apartment, and “to give it a charm, we chose to remove a module and put open shelves”.
Shelves for the kitchen
For her, this is a great way to show off her crockery, decor, decorations and plants in the kitchen.
Industrial shelf in the laundry room
In the laundry room, the highlight is an industrial-style shelf with PVC and wood pipes, also made by Natália’s husband. And, with a laugh, she says, “Carlos has an incredible talent for woodworking and I immediately took advantage of that gift”.
vertical pallet garden
Another change they made to the laundry room was the construction of a vertical garden with pallets. “We reuse the wood, buy the vases and that’s it: a little green corner for our service area”.
An incredible transformation: the before
To show all the transformation, Natália shares a photo from before the apartment, “every sacrifice turns into pride and gratitude for having achieved it”.
