Amanda’s relationship with the house is long, it’s been several years living in the same place, several stages of life and many memories. As a child, she moved into the house where she lives today and, despite being the same place, the space has undergone many changes and adaptations over the years. With little investment and a lot of willpower, Amanda turned her house into a real home, check it out:
Residence type: home
City: Rio de Janeiro, RJ
Residents: Amanda currently lives with her husband Henrique and their 8-year-old son, Miguel. In the beginning, the residence belonged to her parents, but with time and circumstances of life, it ended up being for her and her brothers. The house had 3 floors and after the division, Amanda took the second floor.
Differential: with a space just for her, Amanda started her story with the decoration. For a while it was not easy, she says: “with a baby, lack of money and dreams that are too big, I spent years wanting things that I could not afford to have”. Due to the adaptations, everything was very improvised and the effort to transform a small piece was great, “and then I realized that it was not a porcelain tile that would make me happy, and that revolutionized my way of seeing beauty in a home”. So, with a new vision, creativity, and a lot of courage and effort, she started over.
Amanda and Henrique’s house:
Reinvention in decoration
In the master bedroom, Amanda highlights the pallet painting she made and painted. Reinvention and creativity are keywords in the decoration: fairground crate became a side table and crib rails became a headboard for the bed.
Affective items and memories also make up the environment. Amanda says that the crochet bedspread was made by her mother and the bird that decorates the wall was designed by her husband Henrique.
room for the son
Son Miguel has a room all to himself. The space came to life and a lot of fun with the painting on the wall made by the couple.
fun with organization
All the decoration of the environment was made by the couple. Amanda prioritized the organization of the space with the installation of a coat rack and placed a shelf and boxes for Miguel to store his toys.
A space for studies
The pair also made a desk for their son. “We used a crib for the study table”, reveals Amanda.
Beside the door, Amanda made a small entrance hall. She invented a shoe rack out of cinder blocks, added a large mirror and placed a panel for items such as keys, eyewear and goggles.
Freshness and green in the environment
The space comes alive with several specimens of plants, among them: raffia palm, roses, ixoras and sword-of-São-Jorge.
Constant changes in decor
Slowly and without weighing it down, the couple makes changes. “My house isn’t finished yet…I’m always moving, painting walls, creating new furniture, buying plants,” says Amanda.
Brick wall and memorabilia in the living room
About the space of the room, she says: “the brick wall was made with plaster, the wooden rack was made by us, in the photos – my father with the guitar and my parents at the wedding”.
Economy and simplicity guide the choices
For Amanda, decoration, simplicity and economy go together. “I always try to show that the simple is also beautiful, that we don’t need expensive or fashionable objects to have a happy home”.
Creative ideas for furniture
And he adds: “I believe that every home has its beauty and I confess that I love a home full of personality and simplicity!” In the photo, a rebar bookcase made by the couple.
Colors and joy in the kitchen
The kitchen is full of joy and colors with drawings on the walls, and it was also all made by their hands.
Curtains instead of cabinets
The window was painted blue and gave another face to the space. In the sink, the solution adopted was a practical curtain, and Amanda reveals that she loves this item in the decoration.
The shelves store spices in recycled pots and display several specimens of plants. The utensils are always at hand and bring more practicality in everyday life.
Total laundry makeover
In the laundry room, more plants bring freshness. The two also did practically everything and even laid the floor in the environment. They also organized the place with an old kitchen cabinet, “I divided it in half and made 2 cabinets, one for ironing”, explains Amanda.
The balcony still has the old floor and parts in cement, but the walls have already gained color. The couple guarantees that paint is always a great option to transform spaces.
Music corner and plants
Many plants, old records and a turntable decorate a corner in the outdoor area and show the family’s appreciation for music.
Spaces full of personality
There is no shortage of plants and simple and colorful items decorate every space. “I believe that every home has its beauty and I confess that I love a home full of personality and simplicity”, says Amanda.
A home for a happy family
About sharing the transformation and decoration of her home, she says: “my main intention is to motivate simple people, like me, to get their hands dirty, you know? Taking a risk, whether painting a wall, making a piece of furniture or simply hanging something on the wall”.
Despite the tight budget, Amanda and her husband Henrique did not stop innovating and redecorated the house with great joy and style. And if you are looking for other ideas to decorate with economy and creativity, also check out sustainable decoration suggestions .
