As a dietitian who uses MyFitnessPal frequently – for my own tracking and with my clients – I've seen how time constraints can make it difficult to keep consistent recording. But MyFitnessPal's new voice recording feature really simplifies the process, making it faster and easier for busy users.
For example, I use this feature to follow my typical breakfast: two scrambled eggs, a slice of whole-wheat toast, chicken sausage, and an avocado, with a cup of coffee.
Talking about it in the app and reviewing it only takes about 15 seconds— a deadline that even the busiest people can manage!

What is the voice recording feature?
Voice Recording is a premium feature and new to the MyFitnessPal app. Not a Premium member? No problem! Try Premium free for 30 days.
This feature makes it easy to record multiple foods, meals, and portions. Instead of manually typing and searching for items, all you need is your voice (and a few clicks).

Benefits of Using Voice Recording for Tracking
The Voice Logging feature offers several benefits for meal tracking in MyFitnessPal:
- Simplifies portion size estimation: It's difficult to know how much food you ate in ounces, grams, or other units of measurement. Now outline your portions with your hand. For example, “I ate a portion of chicken for lunch that was the size of my fist. » Or “I ate a handful of blueberries for a snack.” (See our handy guide to portion sizes below!)
- Saves you time: Voice recording replaces the need to enter foods into search, which can make tracking your meals and snacks faster and easier. You can also record multiple foods at once by describing your meal out loud. Best of all, you can log multiple meals at once! At the end of the day, open your app, tap Voice Log in the logging menu, and describe your breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. Review, revise if necessary, and connect!
- Lets you connect on the go: Multitasking? No problem. This feature is perfect for making sure you save your food, even when you only have a few seconds.
- Can improve consistency: Finding a way to log foods that fits easily into your routine can help you stay consistent. And when you stay consistent with your health habits, you have a better chance of reaching your goals.
Voice Logging FAQs in MyFitnessPal
You can save available foods and drinks in the MyFitnessPal database (which is one of the largest). Weight, workouts, and custom foods and recipes cannot be saved via voice commands at this time. Water can be logged, but only as part of your breakfast, lunch, dinner or as a snack.
This works best when you describe what you ate (or drank), the serving size, and the meal you ate (or drank) it for. For example: “I had a cup of plain Greek yogurt, a drizzle of honey, a handful of blueberries, and a small cup of coffee for breakfast. »
Voice recording is available on iOS and Android devices, but may require updates for full compatibility on all models. To ensure you are using the most recent version of the app, visit the App Store.
No, the MyFitnesspal Voice Logging feature requires an internet connection to process voice commands.
Currently, the Voice Logging feature is only available in English and availability is limited to the US market.
