The fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime did not free all Syrian prisoners.
Al-Sina prison houses more than 5,000 detainees in the northeast of the country, under Kurdish control.
These prisoners – some of whom are British – are suspected of being fighters and supporters of the so-called Islamic State group. Most would have been loyal to him until his last fight in 2019.
The BBC's senior international correspondent, Orla Guerin, was given rare access to the prison.
