As he continued to observe the scene and lurked in the background, Blair “The Flair” Cobbs once again issued a public challenge, and he placed the “Duck” tag on the world champion Undefeated IBF welterweight Jaron “Boots” Ennis.
Cobbs is a welterweight contender who is known more for his outlandish personality than his accomplishments inside the squared circle. However, Cobbs is a seasoned veteran looking for an opportunity to compete in a fight that could redefine his boxing career.
Hailing from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Blair “The Flair” Cobbs began his boxing journey with 15 consecutive victories. In March 2022, Cobbs lost his unblemished record when he was stopped by Alexis Rocha in the 9th round.
Five months later, Cobbs would bounce back significantly when he faced former WBO junior welterweight champion Maurice Hooker. In the first round, Cobbs landed a big forehand followed by a flurry of shots that sent Hooker to the canvas.
Hooker managed to get back up, but Cobbs then scored two more knockdowns in the second round. Cobbs was in complete control of the match from start to finish, as he cruised to a unanimous decision victory by scores of 97-90, 97-90 and 96-91.
After Blair Cobbs put on a very impressive performance, Golden Boy Promotions dropped the ball, as they neglected to keep Cobbs active. Blair “The Flair” would split from Golden Boy and fight a former four-division champion.
In preparing for his fight against Adrien “The Problem” Broner, Blair Cobbs was comical, confident, intense and focused. At the end of the final Broner vs. Cobbs press conference, Blair Cobbs shouted, “It's my time!” It's my time! Courting!”
On fight night, Cobbs made an immediate statement when he hit Broner with a straight left hand shot that knocked out a tooth and sent the former four-division champion to the canvas. Broner managed to get back to his feet, but Cobbs dominated the rest of the fight, earning a unanimous decision victory.
Since his victory over Broner, Blair “The Flair” Cobbs (17-1-1, 10 KOs) has put a fellow Philadelphia native on his radar. After watching Jaron “Boots” Ennis (33-0, 29 KOs) defeat Karen Chukhadzhian at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Cobbs slipped into the post-fight press conference and explained why Ennis should fight him next .
“We know the two options you want to choose, but there is still a third option,” Cobbs said. “This third option is the most exciting man in boxing, Blair “The Flair” fighting Jaron “Boots” Ennis in a major success in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, woo!”
Promoter Eddie Hearn quickly jumped in, talking about Ennis' plan to unify at 147 or fight a big name at 154. As time went on, the opportunity to unify never materialized and recently, Ennis turned down the opportunity to face Vergil Ortiz at 154.
Due to the way things have gone for Jaron Ennis, his local rival is back on the scene, pushing for the chance to fight for the IBF welterweight title. During an interview with Fight Hub TV, Blair “The Flair” made his case.
“You say, I want to move up to 154, then someone bluffs you at 154, then you quickly change your mind to say I want to stay at 147, and you can't unify those titles because everyone is fighting .”
Blair Cobbs went on to say, “Why don't we make the Blair 'The Flair' fight happen, where we can have great attraction, great excitement in the sport of boxing in the welterweight division with two fighters from Philadelphia? I have no idea what they do other than dodge.
Blair Cobbs, 34, believes Jaron Ennis, 27, is a duck who looks for the easy route to success. As of right now, Jaron Ennis doesn't have a fight lined up, and until he finds an opponent, Blair Cobbs plans to constantly apply pressure and try to get that elusive title shot.
