Froch: Fury Will Gas Out!

Carl Froch believes Tyson Fury will burn out if he fails to knock out Oleksandr Usyk in the fourth round on Saturday. Froch believes Fury's weight is too high, at 281 pounds, for him to avoid fading and losing to unified heavyweight champion Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) in their rematch at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh.

If “Gyspy King” Fury fades after three or four rounds, he will likely be knocked out by Usyk. The referee who saved Fury last time with his count of eight in the ninth round will not participate in Saturday's rematch. Tyson will therefore be alone, having to get out of hot water without any help.

Fury decided to move up in weight with the desperate belief that he could use the weight to gain more strength and perhaps lean on Usyk to wear him down. He had used these tactics against Deontay Wilder, Dillian Whyte and Derek Chisora.

This style was taught to Fury by his trainer SugarHill Steward, but it was just a game plan that worked against the three limited fighters above. This proved ineffective against Fury's last two opponents, Usyk and Francis Ngannou.

Endurance doubts

“Just Usyk’s confidence, smile and poise. He's overflowing with class today. With the first fight as it happened in the ninth round, I made him the favorite all week and I am even more confident,” Carl Froch told Boxing in the match roompicking Oleksandr Usyk to win Saturday night in his defense against Tyson Fury.

“You can’t rule out Tyson. He's a big boy; it's strong, but I think it's too heavy [281 lbs]. That's 20 stones. If you don't get him out of there in the first three or four rounds, he's going to explode. He will fill this extra weight himself. I don't think he did himself any extra favors.

“I could be wrong. He could get in there and lean on Usyk, grab him and try to get him out of there. That has to be his game plan,” Froch said.

It seems Fury lacks self-confidence and his trainer, Sugarhill, has no idea other than what game plan worked for the Wilder fight. Fury focused on one idea: trying to intimidate Usyk.

“Take off the leather clothes and let’s say he’s at 277. He’s been there before.” I didn’t like him at that weight,” commentator Steve Bunce said of Fury. “That’s when it’s slow and cumbersome. That's obviously the plan. It's a great plan, but what will happen in the sixth round if Usyk has avoided all danger. All that weight takes its toll.

“Usyk, with his clothes on, he probably looks exactly the same as he did in the last fight because that's what he is. He's a scientist.
