Fury Vs. Usyk II: John Fury Out Of Corner

Tyson Fury's trainer SugarHill Steward has revealed that John Fury will NOT be in his corner in Saturday night's rematch against unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh.

DAZN reports that Papa Fury, John, will not be in Tyson's corner during the fight. Some people think there were too many voices in Fury's corner during his clash against unified champion Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) earlier this year on May 18, blending in with different voices barking instructions to the beleaguered “Gypsy King.”

Having John around isn't the reason Fury lost this fight, but he's obviously a convenient scapegoat It’s up to the fans to be responsible for their hero’s failure. Fury fans need someone to blame for their Viking's failure against Usyk, because it would be too painful for them to admit that he simply wasn't good enough.

How the fight went would not have made a difference if John Fury hadn't helped. Sugarhill Steward had NO answer for Fury to deal with Usyk's superior skills, movement and athleticism.

Steward looked like he had completely lost his mind when things started to go wrong for the Gyspy King in the eighth round. Once Fury had a bloody beak in the eighth round, SugarHill couldn't help him. Tyson was alone once things started going bad for him, and there was nothing SugarHill could do to help him.

From what I saw, John was the only one who seemed to have some useful advice around that evening. If anything, Fury should have ditched his trainer SugarHill and the other assistants and kept Papa for the rematch.

The things SugarHill had taught Fury since joining him in 2019, like leaning and brutal tactics, were useless against Usyk. He immediately neutralized this simple-minded approach, leaving Fury with nothing else to fall back on.
