A touching gesture made by Travis Kelce in tribute to his brother Jason it may not be all that it seems.
Chatting with a sports presenter Charissa Thompson in the Thursday, December 19 episode of his podcast, “I'm not going to lie with Kylie Kelce” Jason's wife Kylie poked holes in a story previously told by Travis.
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis, 35, said the reason he wears the number 87 on his jersey is to honor your brother Jason, born in 1987.
Thompson, 42, recalled the moment Travis made the revelation in an interview with NFL Films, which she participated in.
“That's when Travis told me he wore a size 87 because of Jason…that's the year he was born,” Thompson said, before Kylie chimed in.
“Jason always calls bull,” Kylie, 32, said. “Jason continues to criticize this revelation. He said, “No, they gave you “87” and he said, “Um, how do I remember that?” It's the year my brother was born.
Whether the story is true or not, Thompson acknowledged, “Well, it’s a sweet feeling. It's a beautiful story.
Kylie agreed, replying: “That was so sweet.”
NFL Films shared an interview with the brothers in December 2023, during which Travis made statements regarding his jersey number.
“If there's a legacy of Kelce, two brothers coming into the NFL, it all started in 1987 because this big guy was born in 1987,” Travis said of Jason, 37, during the interview.
Travis and Jason developed a strong brotherly bond over the years and neither ever hesitates to praise their sibling in public.
Jason was excited to see Travis reach his third Super Bowl in February 2024. He described the experience as “a little different” from watching Travis play rather than being in the big game himself.
“I just love being a fan. Being able to put down roots and just watch good football. I can’t wait to watch it,” Jason told NFL Network. Cameron Wolfe at the time. “Every time you watch a loved one compete, you feel a sense of pride. It's very different from the competition [on] yours.
Jason added: “Obviously my brother and I love each other a lot. We cherish these moments because we know they will eventually disappear.
Meanwhile, Travis gushed over his older brother during his monologue while hosting Saturday evening live in February 2023.
“Jason and I have been playing football together since we were little and he has always been better than me – at everything,” Travis said of Jason, before joking: “In high school he was an honor student and I got kicked off the team because I failed French. And then when we were in college, I got kicked off the team because I tested positive for marijuana.
