Struggling electric van startup Canoo has placed its remaining employees on what it calls a “mandatory unpaid break” until at least the end of the year, according to an email obtained by TechCrunch.
The company told employees they would no longer have access to Canoo's systems at the end of Friday, according to the email. He said the benefits would last until the end of December.
The email arrives just a few days later the company announced that it was laying off nearly 100 employees and idling an assembly facility in Oklahoma due to a lack of funding. It is unclear how much remains after these reductions. The company and its CEO Tony Aquila did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
