Austen Kroll hasn't always been successful in love, but he knows a thing or two about dating during the holidays.
Kroll, 37, began to see his current girlfriend, Audrey Prattduring cuffing season last year. As they celebrate their first year together, Us every week asked the Southern Charm star for her advice on entering — and maintaining — a romance that begins during the pleasant months.
Cuffing season, also known as the holiday season, refers to the colder months when it is desirable to snuggle up with someone special and have a romantic connection. According to Kroll, it's a total “yes” to start dating someone new during the fall and winter months.
The reality star, however, has mixed feelings about whether the new partner should meet your parents on vacation.
“How serious is this partner and how long have you been dating?” Have you been in a relationship for more than three months? he asked. “So yes, you can introduce your partner to your family during the holidays.”
When it comes to gift-giving in a new relationship, Kroll confessed that it's “not my love language,” so he's not the best person to ask.
“I'm horrible because I feel like jewelry is such a lousy gift, but women love jewelry, don't they?” » he questioned. “I don't know. …I mean, are flowers a lame gift? Yes.” Kroll said when in doubt, turn to “girl friends” to help find the perfect gift.
Although gifts aren't his area of expertise, Kroll was confident about a few other cuffing season missteps.
“If you're on the fence about the relationship, you're probably waiting until after Christmas and New Years. [to break up]” said Kroll We. “It would be cruel to break up with someone right before Christmas.
He also advised against “calling an ex because you don't have a date” for a holiday party, calling it a “don't do it.” If an ex calls you to be their partner for a celebratory affair, Kroll said it's “the dealer's choice.”
However, he exercised caution and called back We“They’re an ex for a reason,” so maybe don’t answer the phone.
No matter what stage of romance you're experiencing, Kroll said that holiday movie dates or solo views are a must.
“My favorite holiday romantic comedy to watch by the fire while on vacation right now is The holidays“, he shared. “I’ve already seen him twice in December.”
Southern Charm airs on Bravo Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET.
